About This Quote

I’ve always been a strong woman, I’ve always been a female, and I always will be. I grew up in a time when there were no women who made me feel powerful, who made me feel like I could be anything that I wanted to be. It was a time when there were no women speaking out loud about gender inequality, and when the only way you could prove your femininity was by being a good housewife. That’s what I grew up believing.

That anyone who was not a good mother or wife was not feminine enough to be considered a woman at all. It sounds ridiculous now, but it was the truth for so long that I don’t see it as a problem any more.
